Before you arrive in Perth

In preparation for your arrival, it is important that you check our pre-departure website to ensure you are ready to arrive in Perth. UWA offers a free airport pick-up service for international students who are studying at UWA for the first time. We can also help you find accommodation on and off campus.

After you arrive in Perth

Congratulations! You have arrived in Perth and are settling in to the University. We can tell you the emergency contact numbers you need to know, give you personal safety advice and guide you about safety and health.

Settling in to UWA

It is important that you attend the orientation program to learn what you need to know at UWA. All students new to Perth will be connected to other students through the UniMentor program before arriving at UWA, so get involved in the social events. UWA has Chaplaincy services, places of worship and spiritual clubs and support groups for our religious students

Important visa and fees information

Please ensure you understand your visa requirements, the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act, and the University’s refund policy. Taking leave from studies may affect your visa, so please get in touch with our International Support Adviser for advice. Students who are US citizens may be eligible for Federal Student Aid or other loans. All student visa holders must have medical insurance or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) while at UWA, allowing you to access the UWA Medical Centre for free.

Help with your studies

Studying at UWA can be different from what you are used to back home. Academic advice is available in many forms, and we encourage you to access STUDYSmarter’s online resources, come to a workshops, such as the 'English Language Bootcamp', or drop in for personal face-to-face assignment advice. UWA also takes grievances and appeals seriously, with a process in place for those who are dissatisfied or have been treated unfairly.

Enjoying your time as a UWA student

Our UWA Student Guild has a huge array of clubs and societies for you to be a part of. The Council for International Students of Western Australia (CISWA) offers an excellent hospitality and social program to international students, and international postgraduates can also join UWA’s Language and Cultural Exchange (LACE) for intercultural friendship and regular social events.

Getting support

Our International Student Advisor is your liaison for pastoral support. Please get in touch right away if you are homesick, struggling with your studies, if you’re considering taking leave, have changed your address, or have any questions about visa issues or student life at UWA.

Returning home

Going back home after studying at UWA can be overwhelming, but we’ll help you through the process. Please update your details and stay in touch with us as UWA Alumni and come to our events around the world.
