The Transition Services team facilitates engagement between international and domestic students through social activities, excursions and the UniMentor program.

Connect to Perth

Each semester, students can participate in excursions to enable them to meet other students and have some fun at the same time, whilst exploring Perth and its surrounding areas.

Excursions include free and low cost trips which are available each semester and can include trips to Adventure World, Mullaloo Beach & Hillary's Boat Harbour, Perth Zoo, Perth City Tour, Ikea & Innaloo Shopping trip.

Scheduled Excursions - Semester 2, 2019 

Perth City Walking Tour

(Postgraduate International and Student Exchange & Study Abroad Students Only)

Our amazing UniMentors and current UWA students who have returned from studying abroad have volunteered to take a walk with you around central Perth and Northbridge. They’ll show you some points of interest and help you get acquainted with our beautiful city. The tours will start in the Cultural Centre of Perth. The tour leaders will show you the main train and bus stations, shopping and entertainment precincts and other attractions along the way. If you’re lucky they may even share their secret coffee spots

Date: Tuesday, 23 July 2019

Time: Check in at 9:00am, departing from UWA at 9:30am

Departs Perth for UWA: 1:30 PM

  • Students to make own way from Perth back to UWA or home

Meeting point: Grassed area behind the tennis courts located between the UWA Sports Centre and the School of Music.

Registration for this excursion will open at the end of June.

Ikea and Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Trip

We're off to IKEA and Lakeside Joondalup, so why not come and explore with us! Students new to Perth find this a convenient and worthwhile trip to pick up essentials to take some stress out of settling in to your new accommodation. In the past students have purchased desks, clothes drying racks, washing baskets, indoor plants and mattresses! If you're hungry you'll also be able to grab a bite to eat at the Ikea restaurant.

Caversham Wildlife Park and Swan Valley Excursion

Visit Caversham Wildlide Park and watch sheep shearing, crack a stock whip, milk a cow, bottle feed a lamb, all the excitement of a true blue Aussie farm!
Meet and feed some Kangaroos – get a photo with a koala. Finish with a visit to the Swan Valley to sample and purchase some delicious food.

Dunsborough/Yallingup Excursion

The Transition Team invite you to join us for a 2 day trip down south to the Beautiful Dunsborough/Yallingup region. Dunsborough is a popular holiday destination about 2.5 hours (250km) south of Perth. The Yallingup region is known as a beach town, foodie and adventurers paradise.

We have a really fun program planned including cave exploration, SUP boarding and visits to white sandy beaches and much more. This is a great chance to meet your peers off campus and explore WA.  Dorm accommodation is located in Busselton and just a short journey to Dunsborough/Yallingup. The cost includes transport, most meals and accommodation. For more information about Yallingup click here.

Time: Check in at 7:00am, departing from UWA at 7:30am Tuesday 17 September

Returns to UWA by: 6:00 PM Thursday 18 September

Meeting point: Grassed area behind the tennis courts located between the UWA Sports Centre and the School of Music. 

Cost: $100 AUD

Registration for this excursion will open at the end of June 2019.

No alcohol purchase or consumption during UniStart trips will be tolerated. Anyone found to be intoxicated or to have alcohol on them will be excluded from future UniStart events at our discretion.

Connect to Social Activities

    Each semester, students can participate in social activities to enable them to meet other students and have some fun at the same time. These types of activities are open to international and local students and provide students with an opportunity to get away from their studies and spend some time with other.

    These social activities include, UniMentor Quiz Nights, lawn games, scavenger hunts, movie nights and more.

    Scheduled Social Activities - Semester 1, 2019  

    UniMentor Quiz Night

    Come along with your UniMentor and fellow mentees to the UniMentor Quiz Night. This a great opportunity to meet other students and compete for prizes and enjoy some snacks and soft drink. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food or have food delivered. If you didn't receive a UniMentor and would like one, you can sign up to be allocated a mentor.

    Time: Arrive 4:45pm, Quiz runs from 5:00pm - 8:00pm

    Venue: UWA Water Sports Complex.
