Become a volunteer

The contribution of volunteers remains vital to the work of the Health Promotion Unit. We recognise and value the reciprocal nature of the relationship between our organisation and individual volunteers.

At the HPU, we are committed to providing a volunteer program which supports HPU work while meeting the expectations and needs of our individual volunteers.

Why should I volunteer with the Health Promotion Unit?

Whether you want to put your University skills into practice, or just want to try your hand at something new, by volunteering at the HPU you will gain first hand experience working on health promotion projects and programs.

By being a Fit for Study volunteer, you will gain:

  • knowledge and skills in health promotion
  • opportunities to network and meet new friends
  • work experience that could give you the edge when competing in the job market
  • satisfaction that your work has contributed to the overall health of UWA students

How much time do I have to contribute?

How often you wish to volunteer is up to you. You can commit to volunteering on an ongoing basis or participate in one-off activities and events on and around campus throughout the year.

Will I get training?

Yes! Our volunteers are provided with training and support to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to contribute to Fit for Study projects. You will have access to training in the areas of Responsible Service of Alcohol, Managing Alcohol at Events, Brief Alcohol Intervention delivery, Mental Health First Aid and Respectful Relationships. There will also be specific training opportunities based on your volunteer role.

What will I be doing?

As a Fit for Study volunteer, you can work on any of our projects, depending on your interests and how much time you have to contribute.

We run outreach events on campus and at the residential colleges including:

  • O'Day Festival
  • Link Week
  • Pit Stop health assessments
  • Think Drink Extravaganza evenings
  • Brief Alcohol Intervention sessions

You can also choose to work in our office on projects such as:

  • website development
  • social media
  • creation and proofing of print media
  • planning and evaluation of health promotion programs

How do I get involved?
