Excess baggage and Customs

Australian Customs and Border Force

When travelling to or from Australia, be aware of:

Consider ways to reduce the baggage you need to take home with you.

Taking all your belongings may be expensive.

Before you travel, check the baggage allowance on your airline ticket. Anything over this allowance will be treated as excess baggage which can be costly.

Freight services can provide a cheaper alternative for excess baggage. Many companies offer discounts to students. UWA does not endorse any freight or courier companies, but we are aware of several who provide this service. You will find more on the Internet or in the Yellow Pages. It is always a good idea to get quotes from different companies.

Australia Post may also be appropriate for light or small items. Alternatively, unaccompanied airline baggage may suit you.
