The Health Promotion Unit was established at UWA in 2002. It has pioneered multiple projects through the award-winning Fit for Study Program which aims to reinforce the link between optimum health and academic performance.

The key philosophy of Fit for Study is that positive student engagement in academic study requires a level of physical, psychological, emotional and social wellbeing and that a healthy student can be positively influenced by the extent to which the University offers an enriched and supportive learning environment.

The Fit for Study program aims to:

  • Build health-related knowledge and skills;
  • Increase opportunities for engagement and collaboration;
  • Advocate improved health and environments that support and encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours; and
  • Provide quality services and programs supported by monitoring, evaluation and research.

These goals are embedded into each Fit for Study project.
