Scholarships for Studying Abroad


You may be eligible for loans and scholarships for your overseas learning experience.

OS-HELP loan

OS-HELP loans are available to Commonwealth supported students who want to undertake faculty-approved study overseas. Check your eligibility for an OS-Help loan.

Austudy, Abstudy and Youth Allowance

You may continue to receive Centrelink payments while on exchange. After you have been accepted into your exchange university, you may request a letter to notify Centrelink of your exchange.

If you currently receive a Centrelink benefit payment and want this to continue during your exchange, you must not leave Australia more than two weeks prior to the commencement of your exchange studies. If you do, your payments may be cut off. Please contact Centrelink for more information.

What scholarships are available?

If you are undertaking overseas study, practicum, internships or research that counts towards your current UWA course requirements, you can apply for a UWA Study Abroad Scholarship. To be eligible for a scholarship, you must ensure you have approval from your Allocated Course Advice Office for the program you wish to undertake. 

Scholarships are awarded by the relevant board, are primarily based on academic merit (Weighted Average Mark), available funding and University strategic direction.   
A range of other scholarships either administered by the University or by external sources are also available.

The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship supports students who are interested in Asia and want to actively contribute to Australia's success in Asia in their chosen field. To be considered for Frank Gamblen, Robert and Maude Gledden Undergraduate Studentships, Endeavour - International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant, or the UWA Overseas Study Grant (Study Abroad Scholarship), all students need to be submit a Overseas Study Grant (Study Abroad Scholarship) on Global Studio.

You can only receive one UWA Overseas Study Grant (Study Abroad Scholarship) during the course of your studies at UWA, including between Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees.  


Grants are paid during or after an overseas experience and should not be relied upon to cover program costs prior to commencement.  

Overseas Study Grant Application deadlines

  • For programs in the summer break 2019/2020 and exchange in semester 1 2020, to apply submit an application in Global Studio by the 1st of October 2019.

Please note that you do not need approval from your Course Advice Office or confirmation of admission from the Host Institution to complete an application; however, these elements are required prior scholarship payment.
