Cost of exchange

Eligible Students may apply for a variety of scholarships and loans to help finance the cost of studying overseas.

Italian Castle located in the South of Italy

As an exchange student, you will still be liable for your tuition fees at UWA but your tuition fees are waived at the host university.

Cost of exchange

Students participating in the student exchange program will be expected to pay for their own:

  • Accommodation and daily living expenses including books
  • Travel expenses
  • Passport and visa costs
  • While the University has extended its Corporate Travel Insurance Policy to cover all UWA exchange students this policy may not be accepted by some of our overseas exchange partners and it may be necessary for you to take additional health cover at the host institution. You will need to arrange additional travel and health insurance for any travel occurring outside of your formal exchange study period.
  • Any other incidental costs.

Although costs can vary greatly depending on location and lifestyle, most returned exchange students indicate that a semester of exchange costs approximately AUD$15,000.  Students are responsible to budget appropriately for their program and are encouraged to factor unpredictable events, such as currency fluctuations in to their budgets.

FriendsWorking while away

There may be limited working opportunities for casual work during your period overseas.

You should not rely on this to support yourself during your exchange period and student visa might not allow you to undertake any work.

We'll provide you with more information during a pre-departure session which we hold for you before you leave.
