The deadline for requesting special consideration or alternative arrangements for examinations is two weeks before the start of the examination period.
How to request special consideration
Put your request in writing to your faculty's elite athlete contact, who will liaise with the unit coordinator and manager, Student Administration.
Late requests will only be considered if circumstances leading to the request were beyond the student's control and could not reasonably have been forseen by the student. It might not be possible to accommodate late requests.
Students whose selection for a team may be uncertain should still request alternative arrangements before the due date, even if they may prove to be unnecessary.
Sitting examinations away from UWA
Wherever possible, examinations sat away from official UWA examination sessions should be formally supervised by another University or approved tertiary institution. Costs associated with supervision are the responsibility of the student.
Where it is not possible to arrange supervision at an approved tertiary institution, approval for supervision can only be granted if the following minimum requirements are met:
- The exam should be independently supervised by a person with recognised authority (such as a sporting official, institute administrator or team manager). Exams should not be supervised by a parent, friend, team-mate or coach of the student.
- Exams should not be conducted in an individual's hotel room. Conference break-out rooms at hotels might be suitable.
- The room in which the exam is held should have an appropriate desk, table or seating arrangement for the student and the supervisor, as well as suitable levels of lighting and a clock visible to the student and the supervisor.
- An exam starting time must be nominated, as close as practicable to the scheduled UWA examination time.
- The supervisor must ensure that only those texts or aids allowed in the exam instructions are used during the exam.
- The exam room should be free from distractions. No person apart from the student and supervisor should enter the room during the examination.
- The supervisor must remain in the examination room at all times during the exam and should conduct the examination in the manner specified in the University's guide for invigilators.
- The student and supervisor must sign a declaration verifying the satisfactory conduct of the exam.
- Student's completed exam scripts must be returned to the University immediately, using registered mail or another previously agreed method of delivery.
A casual comment as you're leaving a lecture isn't sufficient notification. If you need special consideration, email the faculty contact person, who will liaise with the unit coordinator or the examinations office as necessary.
